“Boosting confidence and gaining a feeling of achievement”Our unique approachAll the Xcite Steps sports leagues in San Diego are customized and structured in a way that the participants can learn at their own pace and succeed at their own level. Each sport league has one professional instructor who teaches the skills and is assisted by our experienced mentors keeping at most a three to one ratio. Each San Diego league is eight weeks long and during each session we have our practices. Practice is a combination of drills, games and team exercises. Each participant is given a specific role in the group promoting their strengths and at the end of the program each child will be awarded a metal or trophy. Kids Fitness Club The Fitness Club is an opportunity for kids ages 7 – 14 to be part of a social fitness club. Our fitness activities will be a combination of natural cardio outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, walking on the beach and strength and coordination development with an introduction to various sports. Many children who are involved in therapies spend longer periods sitting and have less time for physical activities. The Fitness Club provides an opportunity to work on fitness goals as well as social and behavioral goals simultaneously. Additionally, certain medications promote weight gain in children, but a good regular exercise routine and healthy lifestyle can counter some of the weight gaining effects of the medication.
Start Date: April 3rd – May 8th
Time: Tuesdays from 3:30pm to 5:30pm

Teen Drama Troupe
The Drama Troupe is an opportunity for teens ages 13+ to be part of a social drama program. The program will serve as a safe and appropriate emotional and physical outlet for creative expression and the practice of daily life skills. Each participant will feel a sense of personal accomplishment and develop self-confidence. The fun games and exercises in this program will incorporate gross motor skills, speech and language, memory agility, body language and facial expression recognition, sensory integration, group interaction and self expression. The short term outcome is a wonderful presentation on the final week, and the long term outcome is increased socialization with peers and adults! Start Date: April 20th – May 25th
Time: Fridays from 4:30pm to 6pm

Video Game ClubPlaying video games is typically a socially isolated activity that kids or teens enjoy at home, but XciteSteps has created a great social opportunity for kids to share their experiences and knowledge with their peers in a fun and natural social group setting. The XciteSteps Gaming Club will use non-violent video games to facilitate social interaction in a comfortable, natural and coached environment. We have built a relationship with Club Lan, a video gaming lounge in Point Loma that has a variety of different consoles and games for the kids and teens to play. During the club, our social coaches (3 to 1 ratio) will take the group of kids and teens to the gaming center and facilitate positive competitions, team play, prizes and enjoy pizza and drinks. The goal of this club is for the participants to make friends, build confidence in their social abilities and have a positive, natural social experience. Drama Troupe 2012

Children and teens experiencing a disability often miss out on the opportunity to be part of a sports team. The feelings of excitement, camaraderie, devotion, commitment and sacrifice are all key ingredients to the characteristics one learns in a team environment. These same emotions and lessons are created when a participant joins one of our sports leagues in San Diego.
