Social Group Activities

  • Program Age Groups
  • Kids Programs
  • Teen Programs
  • Adult Programs

Many children and teens experiencing a disability have had negative experiences in previous social settings, which can cause anxiety and frustration in a child or teen who wants to interact and be social.

Xcite Steps social clubs in San Diego offer a variety of recreational and adventure opportunities for kids and teens to build friendships and have fun in a non-judging, non-threatening small group environment, where fun and excitement dictates everything they do. Under the steady guidance of our experienced yet youthful social coaches, participants hone their social skills and have the opportunity to forge friendships with other participants in our program.

All our social clubs are innovatively structured to make sure each child is placed in an environment, with the proper support, to make sure he or she has a positive experience and gains important skills and confidence to become more socially independent.

“Providing friendship opportunities in a coached but natural environment”

Ensuring Success

Initially each new San Diego family meets with our program director putting together a detailed achievement plan explaining student’s goals which we will be working on during the outings. Also during this meeting we will have a chance to meet the child and gather important information such as triggers and fears. Our Social group director will make sure each social coach is aware of the specific challenges of the child.

Measuring Success

During the 8-week session participants will be coached on managing emotions, articulating feelings, work together, self-awareness, appropriate behaviors, and constructive communication. After each outing our social coaches record specific successes or challenges each child had. Parents get feedback on the spot after each activity but also are presented with a more comprehensive evaluation after the 8-week session is complete.
