Adult Social Club

The Adult Social Club is an opportunity for adults who experience mild cognitive disabilities such as high functioning autism, aspergers, downs syndrome, PDD-NOS, Fragile X, social anxieties or minor disabilities to be part of a social club. The club allots freedom and self-advocacy to its participants to have a fulfilling and desired social experience. Community integration, friendship building, and social awareness are the main objectives of the Club. We will focus on socially appropriate behavior through role modeling and positive reinforcement. The club is designed to provide exciting and creative activities to support the interests of its participants.

The Fitness and Health Club for adults

The Fitness Club is an opportunity for teens and adults who experience cognitive disabilities such as aspergers, high functioning autism, PDD-NOS, MDD, CDD, social anxieties, or minor disabilities to be part of a social fitness club. The club provides a safe, encouraging, and non-judgmental environment that allows its participants to open up and be themselves. Our fitness activities will be a combination of natural cardio outdoor activities such as hiking, stair climbing, walking on the beach and core strength training in a gym with a professional trainer.

Measuring Success

When an adult enters our program, our director will meet with the parents and if desired any other professionals working with the adult to set up an XciteSteps Achievement Plan. This plan details information about the child, struggles, triggers, goals and objectives we will be working on during involvement in our programs. It will also outline a plan of action put together by our social coaches or mentors who will be working directly with the adult.

The Natural Opportunity Model

During our one on one mentoring or social group activities, our social coaches/mentors have these goals in mind when interacting with the adult. Since all our programs and services are activity and interaction based, natural opportunities for teaching arise. Our mentors and social coaches look for these teaching opportunities and take advantage of the natural situation to coach, role model or modify behaviors. After each session the mentors document important interactions, improvements, and challenges for each adult and this data gets highlighted in our performance tracking sheets for parents to view.
