The Kids Adventure Club is an opportunity for kids ages 7 – 12 who experience mild cognitive disabilities such as aspergers, high functioning autism, PDD-NOS, MDD, CDD, social anxieties, or minor disabilities to receive social skills aba therapy in a fun social club setting. Our team of BCBA’s have come together to structure a program that combines the most advanced ABA principals and goals with the Xcite Steps’ Natural Opportunity Model. This means that the children involved in this program receive high quality aba social skills therapy supervised by a licensed professional in an environment that is fun and natural. Every Saturday children attend engaging community outings where they build confidence in their friendship and social skills in a natural but coached setting.

Measuring Success

When a child enters our program, our director will meet with the parents and if desired any other professionals working with the child to set up an XciteSteps Achievement Plan. This plan details information about the child, struggles, triggers, goals and objectives we will be working on during involvement in our programs. It will also outline a plan of action put together by our social coaches or mentors who will be working directly with the child.

Intake, Assessment and Functional Behavior Plan

  • - Meeting with Xcite Steps Supervisory staff to discuss your child and assess appropriate social club setting
  • - Individualized social skills deficits will be identified and then targeted during the 6 week session in a variety of community settings
  • - Identified social skills for increase will be motitored and tracked throughout the 6 weeks.

The Natural Opportunity Model

During our one on one mentoring or social group activities, our social coaches/mentors have these goals in mind when interacting with your child. Since all our programs and services are activity and interaction based, natural opportunities for teaching arise. Our mentors and social coaches look for these teaching opportunities and take advantage of the natural situation to coach, role model or modify behaviors. After each session the mentors document important interactions, improvements, and challenges for each child and this data gets highlighted in our performance tracking sheets for parents to view.

Outing Structure and Goals

  • - 1:1 coaches support peer interaction, communication, transitioning, play skills and friendships.
  • - Social skills coaches will target social challenges outlined in the initial assessment and identified as social skills weaknesses.
  • - Social clubs offer a natural teaching model to implement social goals with novel peers and in a naturalistic teaching environment.
  • - Individuals can also benefit from peer modeling of appropriate social skills + initiation with peers.
  • - Structured peer interaction or facilitation centering around a particular activity or activities will be targeted on a weekly basis.
