Mentors in San Diego Learning Disabilities

Article by: John Foletta (Club Xcite Program Director)

“Do not train children to learning by force and harshness, but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each. ”It was Plato who aptly made such a declaration and George Evans who offered his own proclamation that “every student can learn, just not on the same day, or the same way. ”At Club Xcite, embracing these very philosophies is critical to serving our youth. We believe in the merit of adapting curriculum unique to each individual with the objective of facilitating an overall maturation.

Work and play are not mutually exclusive and the excitement our mentors approach their work with creates an environment where our students crave success. While tutoring services and athletic instruction are often one dimensional in their goals, Club Xcite offers a novel alternative to the monotony sometimes associated with these activities. We aim to strike a relationship that is more familiar than service oriented and we use children’s strengths as much as their weaknesses when working. Equally important, mentors and students are paired along similar personality traits and hobbies. Together, they strike a personal relationship where each works toward the affirmation of the other.

Beyond philosophy we offer a pragmatic approach that demands high expectations but relies heavily on the creativity of the mentor for our students’ achievement. Students receive a variety of incentives all dependent upon their interests. Our programs greatest asset is our mentors and the youth they bring with them. Experience has taught us that children respond differently to role models they are not accustomed to. A thirteen year old boy inevitably is more willing to impress his hip, college age mentor and anxious to finish work in order to enjoy their shared interests.

Friendship is coupled with respect and parents are alleviated of the traditional coaxing necessary to get their son or daughter on task.

Students may go to the beach, play, soccer, or catch a ballgame with their mentor that increases the bond they share and enacts the desire for continued growth.

Ultimately, students gain a new set of expectations for themselves and a friendship all parties feel blessed in. At Club Xcite we have a genuine passion for what we do and a wish for others to embrace that same emotion.

Now, after nearly three years, we can say unequivocally that our formula for success is both effective and fun. We follow so many past and contemporary thinkers in believing that the road to success is as important as reaching one’s destination. Club Xcite shapes individuals with a passion rarely found but one deserving of our future generation and we are proud to serve those sharing the same optimism.

What is ClubXcite?

Xcite! is dedicated to providing opportunities for individuals to grow as athletes, students, and friends. The “Xcite! Way” is the philosophy that an enjoyable teaching style translates to accelerated learning and unmatched performance. With a fun, non-competitive, and encouraging environment, motivated and well-rounded students are created who reach their utmost potential.

Personal growth
Xcite! programs offer a way for children to gain valuable social and team working skills. The “Xcite! Way” inspires students to think positively and encourages self-motivation. Instructors identify student’s strengths and weaknesses so that participants can effectively utilize natural talent while developing weaker areas. Our approach helps students become well rounded and motivated individuals.

Making friends
Sports teams and other extracurricular programs provide for a healthy environment in which students can make friends with individuals in the same community. It is our goal to provide students with a strong foundation so that they feel comfortable interacting with their new neighborhood friends both in and outside of the Xcite! program. Xcite! encourages its participants to form ad hoc teams or practice sessions so that they may build upon the skills that Xcite! has taught them.

Family oriented
Xcite! realizes the importance of building a strong family network throughout the community. Upon creating an environment where families are involved in the children’s successes and achievements, Xcite! strives to create a united and spirited community.

Investing in your child’s future
Our mentors understand what it takes to optimize performance. It is our desire for children to take the skills learned at Xcite! and translate them into measurable successes. Whether it be joining a high school team, or gaining a college scholarship, Xcite! mentors individuals who desire to be top performers.

We encourage you to contact us if you would like more information on customizing a program to match your child's needs.
