Xcite Steps, LLC is Southern California’s premier private youth mentorship organization working specifically with children, teens and adults experiencing autism and other cognitive or developmental disabilities.

Children and young adults with developmental disabilities typically struggle finding appropriate social opportunities where they can easily make friends and have fun with their peers. Due to the lack of appropriate programming, many young individuals with special needs are stuck at home, isolated.

Xcite Steps was founded by Matt Winkley and Stefan Hochfilzer, two young men in their late twenties who are passionate about providing unique and much-needed social and mentoring opportunities for these children, teens and adults. Together, they built Xcite Steps as a program that builds confidence in social abilities and friendship skills in an after school and weekend recreational environment. All Xcite Steps programs are developed based on the needs and desires of our participating families.

As the founders of Xcite Steps, Winkley and Hochfilzer have set in motion their genuine desire to redesign the global standard for programs catering to special needs populations. Their desire to engage this community has culminated in the creation of this unique organization, intent on recognizing, celebrating and meeting the needs of each participating family.

Xcite Steps offers weekend social groups for youth of a variety of ages and abilities, as well as inclusion mentoring programs and a facilitated “buddy” program matching individuals of similar age and functional ability. Also offered are fun sports leagues including bowling, tennis, martial arts etc. Throughout the summer, the Solana Beach-based day camp provides the consistency needed for friendships to develop and deepen. Finally, Xcite Steps offers its trademark one-on-one mentoring program that is tailored to the needs and goals of each individual. Xcite Steps offers transition programs after the age of 22, travel and vacation support opportunities and much more.

With over 120 families in the program, and over 45 mentors who are just as passionate as the founders themselves, Xcite Steps has already changed the lives of hundreds of youth and has proven its effectiveness in the communities it serves.
