San Diego Mentor for Kids

The reputation and success of our program is built upon our great mentors. All of our Xcite Steps mentors have the passion along with the training, experience and skills necessary to work with children, teens, and adults with disabilities. It is our top priority to select responsible instructors that will conduct safe and productive sessions while inspiring participants through fun and captivating activities. Each instructor is hand selected based on their credentials, charisma, and ability to build rapport with students.

What is the process of finding your perfect mentor?
First we gather all the information about your child’s interests, needs and goals and what type of mentor you are looking for. We take your wish list and match the experience, personality, interests and location with that of our mentors. Once we feel confident that we have two or three mentors that would do an awesome job, we schedule meetings with the family, one of our directors, and when available two mentors at separate times. During the initial meeting parents can learn about the mentor and our services and each mentor will spend some time with the child. After this meeting the family gets to choose who they feel would be the best fit for their child.

Xcite Steps mentors:

- are responsible charismatic people who want to make a difference in a young person’s life.
- have passed our screening and background check process
- have experience working with children, teens, and adults with disabilities academically, athletically and socially
- know how to involve your child in fun and captivating sports and extracurricular activities

Performance Tracking
Goals and strategies are assessed at the beginning of the mentor-student relationship and recorded in our Achievement Plan.  Goals are set in place to track the student’s improvements.  Every time a mentor works with a participant he or she fills out a performance tracking sheet. This includes the day and time he or she worked as well as what they worked on, what improvements were made, any positive or negative performance and any comments or suggestions to parents.

These performance tracking sheets are a great way for parents to keep tabs on their child’s development. Also it is a great tool for psychiatrists or therapists to gain some day to day feedback from a third party.

We encourage you to contact us if you would like more information on customizing a program to match your child's needs.
