Our Process

How do you get started with Xcite Steps?

There are three main steps to take getting involved with Xcite Steps: An initial assessment call, an in-home assessment meeting and, finally, helping the child transition into his or her chosen program.

The initial assessment call:

The first step is to contact San Diego XciteSteps by calling (858) 764-2956 or by filling out this form.

In the initial assessment call, an Xcite Steps manager will spend time getting to know the family and learning about their child. The family has the opportunity to share what kind of services they are looking for. We understand that each child is unique and needs customized support.

During this initial consultation parents can expect to:

  • Begin to develop a personal relationship with a member of the Xcite staff.
  • Learn about the Xcite Steps mentoring philosophy.
  • Learn about pricing.
  • Become familiar with how the programs work.
  • Discuss the programs and assess which programs would best fit their child’s needs.
  • Have all questions and concerns answered.
  • If the parents choose they can also set up an appointment for a free in-home assessment meeting at this time.

In-home assessment meeting:

At the in home assessment meeting, the program director will meet with the parents and the child, giving him an opportunity to interact with the child and learn more about their personality, needs, what the family would like Xcite Steps to work on with the child. This helps the child be placed in the appropriate program that can furthest enhance his or her opportunity for learning, play and growth. At this meeting the parents also get to assess Xcite Steps, ask any questions, and build a relationship with the program manager. The program manager can also assist the parents through the application process if they desire.

Helping the child transition into the program:

During the in-home assessment, the child becomes familiar with the Xcite Steps program manager, who will personally help the child transition into any activities that they enroll in.

If the child is enrolled in a social group, the manager will accompany the child to his or her first session.
If the parents choose to enroll the child in a mentoring program, within a two week period the Xcite Steps management will introduce the parents and child to an experienced and compatible mentor. If the family and child approve of the mentor then Xcite Steps will set up a mentoring schedule with the family.
